visible is better than done
as the hours add up, each adjustment further complicates the process. what would have been good enough ten hours ago is now not interesting anymore. this is a path that gets wider as you walk down it.

Focus on the story
New direction here... shifting my focus on telling a story in a shot instead of just trying to make something that looks cool.

One day I will get the hang of this
There has been a long withstanding battle between my desire to animate things in 3d, and my ability to complete a project. I used to think I couldn't finish projects because I was too lazy or unorginized, but the last decade has demonstrated that I can finish projects and also do difficult things. Videos have become my content but I yearn to use the motion capture data I collected at the University of Lethbridge and I miss the flow state of animating anything. Yet, I open up Blender now and can tinker for hours without making tangible progress. I look at the posts before this one, things I wrote five years ago, back before I thought I could do anything valueable. Now, I know that I can hypothetically do anything, but I don't know what to do. Tutorials, more tutorials, learn and progress and learn more. There is an enormous barrier between me and something. It is not creativity. Creativity is a process and oh. I have to start with a story. If I know what the story I want to tell is, the rest will follow.

My first 'real' blog post.
how to get things done.
1. understand what you are trying to do (before starting)
2. break the task into smaller tasks
3. make a list of these things on paper
4. type this list into your computer. redundant? no. because this is a good time to re-order things if your paper list was slightly off. (way less scribbly)
5. take a 15 minute break and do whatever your heart desires.
6. start on the first item
7. do not stop working for two hours. (not even if you have to go to the bathroom. really working. no tweeting 'wow. this list has really increased my productivity' etc.)
8. assess your list. remove the items that you have completed
9. take fifteen minutes.
10. repeat steps 7 through 9 until finished.

Grove Street Party (Toon render)
I was in an introductory flash course. I don't much like flash, but I do like maya, and rendering into .swf's. maya vector is pretty cool, and it was fun to animate stuff to the beat. I want to take on more projects like this.

Diving into Python!
Been doing some learning with Rigging Dojo over the past few weeks. Things are going well, thanks to the help of Learn Python The Hard Way (p2pU). Got a lot on my plate right now, but I'm hungry! Python is a great language and I feel like this is the gateway to success (or at least efficiency). If nothing else, I am typing at roughly 65WPM now!

Ski-ncomplete!
My final project in school. It was hard, and I need to learn python for motionbuilder before I can actually do this, too much of it is procedural.

Bio Project from Patrick Crosman on Vimeo.
I helped a few students of the University of Alberta with this project. 3D provided by me. Maxscript is very fun.
